Heather Malloch – Mission Aviation Fellowship

We were delighted with a recent visit from Heather Malloch, who came to tell us all about an amazing global charity very few of us were even aware of. Heather has worked with Mission Aviation Fellowship for the past 7 years, 5 of those as Head of Aviation Mission Scotland with responsibility for cultivating and developing donor relationships across Scotland and Northern Ireland and, more recently, in a part-time role within the Philanthropy and Partnership Team.

MAF was born in the ashes of World War II when came a new movement, which sought to use aviation as a force for good instead of destruction. Inspired by their Christian faith, MAF’s founders decided to use their flying and engineering skills to deliver help, hope and healing to the world’s most isolated people. Eighty years later, their legacy lives on and Heather explained that MAF’s mission was still the same – to bring aid to distressed people living in remote areas and who would otherwise be unreachable. Heather’s personal inspiration and commitment to MAF came about through her own Christian faith and a church collaboration with health and life-skills programmes in Kenya, Northern Thailand and South Africa.

During her smoothly delivered and descriptive presentation Heather explained that although overheads are high (mainly fuel and piloting costs), even small donations can go a long way towards saving and making lives more tolerable for those in remote places affected by war, disease, accident and hunger.
