Harbour Ayrshire – David Booth

David Booth is founder and trustee of Harbour Ayrshire, a registered charity providing ‘shelter from the storm of addiction’ and dedicated to helping individuals recover from drug and alcohol dependency and its terrible, associated affects.

David delivered a short but well-crafted presentation in a succinct and easy manner to his attentive audience. His commitment to the charity he founded is a direct result of long, personal experience of the perils of addiction and alcoholism, and is in response to the devastating impact that drug and alcohol related deaths have on our communities. Although only two years old the charity has developed at a fast pace and, through its unparalleled rehabilitation programme, has already ‘saved’ over a thousand individuals whose circumstances had driven them to despair. David stressed that the charity was ‘non-judgemental’ and would provide sanctuary to anyone actively seeking help. This help extends to family groups unwittingly drawn into the awful spiral of the affects of addiction.

Harbour Ayrshire derives most of its funding from central government sources, distributed by local government and other organisations. In response to a question from the floor, David confirmed that private donations would always be directed to their requested use.

Gavin McCully thanked David on behalf of the members for his excellent and informative talk on one of the most pressing problems facing society today.
