Big Help for Newton Primary School
John Ewing, President Ieuan, Neil Beattie and Ron Ireland visited Newton Primary School to present a cheque for £4,150 to the staff and pupils. The money is primarily for “Starter Packs” which will be purchased and handed out to needy families, over an extended period, within the framework of the initial request to Ayr Rotary Club. The total award is made up of £1,150 from our Benevolent Fund and a £3000 grant from District 1230.
Head teacher, Fiona McAvoy, said that she was touched by the interest shown in the school by the Club which had provided the funds to purchase the starter packs. According to Fiona, Newton is “an amazing school” with staff dedicated to its mission to reduce the many stresses on families and thus to enable better support for the pupils in the school environment generally. This caring and supportive ethos, she said, permeated the entire school. And this was very evident during our recent visits to the school.
Ieuan had arranged for a number of pupils to be taken afterwards for a fun time at the nearby Shreds Skatepark where qualified scootering instruction had been laid on for the kids. Sadly, Ieuan, Neil and John all wimped out of the skateboarding.
