Youth Speaks Competition Sunday 31st January
At the Pollockshields Burgh Hall on a stormy Sunday afternoon, the Rotary Youth Speaks intermediate competition was contested by nine teams from as far away as Oban. Our sponsored team of Wellington School, Ayr comprising of Isla Novak, (who was 14 years of age on the day) Sophie Craig and Emma Stevenson, delivered their talk with the usual flawless aplomb. Not a note was used, a word forgotten or a stumble heard. They vocalised the accomplished high standard we have come to expect from Alison Sheils’ group. However, their excellent performance did not woo the judges enough. The winners were St Andrew’s & St Bride’s High School from East Kilbride with a worthy and creative talk on The Marvel of Mums. But our Wellington girls can still hold their heads high after a valiant presentation on the topic of “Money Does Not Equal Happiness”
