Tuesday 9th February Bill Hicks & Jill Scott on the Glasgow Central Hotel
Accomplished journalists Bill Hicks and Jill Scott, presented an entertaining summary of their recently published 160 page, glossy book entitled Glasgow’s Grand Central Hotel. They took turns at delivering highlights of their book, which included stories of the good and the great who have graced the rooms of the hotel. From the opening in 1883 to the myth of Roy Rogers’ horse Trigger having its own room, Bill & Jill walked us through the history of this grand old building, sighting many examples from their extensive research to support the anecdotal evidence.
JFK, Danny Kay, May West, Led Zeppelin, Frank Sinatra, Winston Churchill and Royalty are just a small array of people who have all spent time in the Grand Central Hotel. After many years of decline, they concluded, the new owners, the Principal Haley Group bought the hotel in 2009 and invested £20m to sympathetically restore its stunning Victorian architecture to its original features and with modern touches, combined to create a timeless elegance and glamour.
