“..are you ready, no cheating, turn your papers over, begin” said Willie Stewart, with the sadistic glee of a sneering, evil torturer as his quiz revealed 24 challenging brain teasers. Wailing, teeth gnashing, sighing, head scratching, quizzical looks, surreptitious and furtive side ways glances were all in evidence as the minutes ticked by towards being crowned “swot” or “dunderheid” in the grandeur of the Savoy Park. Well, not only is she our newest female member, she’s also very good at general knowledge, Eileen“I wasn’t really trying”Alexander, scooped first place with 26 correct answers including the ‘can you guess all Santa’s reindeer names’ question for additional points .
Three cheers for Eileen as she caressed a well earned bottle of Chilean Head Honcho red.

At the other end of the scale were six Rotarians who scored less than 10 but who each received a consolation prize of a large tube of Smarties. “It’s taking part that counts” some were heard to mumble as they joyfully raised the coveted sweets for all to see and envy. The fun night was concluded by past President, Douglas“I don’t need a microphone”Haddow who thanked Willie for his usual high quality, extensively researched, brain teaser quiz.
