Rise Against Hunger Saturday 21st July at the Braehead Arena, Glasgow
The Rise Against Hunger Scottish initiative was first raised by Gary Louttit when he was District Governor last year. Ayr Rotary Club offered manpower and financial support. Four intrepid Ayr Rotarians went along to the Braehead Arena for a 10.00 start. Craig, Ieuan, John and Douglas donned their respective hair nets and plastic gloves and joined circa 150 volunteers whose task was to package dehydrated high protein nutritious meals which would be used to provide emergency relief in the wake of natural and man-made disasters. Standing for many hours as part of an effective production line.
Rotary Clubs of the West of Scotland worked together to pack over 75000 food packs for the Charity Rise against Hunger today at the Intu Braehead Arena! Local members from Ayr and Prestwick Clubs worked hard to pack over 5200 packs on their station in less than 4 hours. Each 395 gram pack consisted a sachet of vitamins, soya, lentils and rice. Hairs nets were not optional!
