Perth Annual Rotary Bonspiel
Rink Ayr 1, comprising Bob Cherry, David McIntyre, David Hope and Skip Ewan Lawrence and rink Ayr 2 comprising Ronnie Wilson, Paul Williams, Douglas Haddow and Skip Alex Thomson travelled to Perth on Wednesday 28th February for a 10.30 start; preceded by the obligatory roll with delicious filling and tea/coffee.
Throughout the day, eighteen teams competed over four games of three ends each.
The winners of the Bonspiel were the 2022 Tour Team 1, with the composite Perthshire team as runners-up. Ayr 1 came third after losing the last end, in the last game with 2022 Tour Team’s last stone.
The Jewel which requires all four players to be members of the same Rotary Club, was won by Forfar, with Ayr 1 as runner-up, and Braids 1 less than a point behind in third.
Ayr 2 managed 15th place after a difficult morning when luck and skill deserted them. However after a lunchtime team talk from Skip Alex, “to just go out and have fun” they improved their game.
The day raised £1,070 for charities, with £800 going to the Matt Murdoch Foundation, and £270 to the Free to Live Trust Seemas Rotary Project. The funds raised from the auction of the curling professionals signed t-shirt went directly to the Matt Murdoch Foundation.
Everyone had a great day of fun and fellowship.
