Opening of the Trishaws garage at Blackburn car park Ayr
At Blackburn Car Park on a rather damp Sunday morning, the new Trishaw garage was officially opened by Katherine Henebry from SWECO, and President Howard Stevenson of Ayr Rotary. SWECO is Europe’s leading design, engineering, environmental and regulatory consultancy which donated the third trishaw to the Ayr Chapter and also generously donated one to the Troon branch.
With pioneering green-energy Trishaws, which it introduced into the country, CWAS provides free-of-charge rides in almost every part of Scotland, from the Borders to our outer islands. It does this for anyone of any age dealing with mobility challenges or living in loneliness or isolation, and especially the elderly. Through more than 80 Chapters (branches) around the country, it provides more than 1,250 of these rides every week.
CWAS also offers volunteering in a way that is absolutely unique, and benefits for our volunteer riders (aka “Pilots”) are as great as they are for our passengers: fulfilment at an amazing level, exercise, fresh air, camaraderie and richly rewarding fun. Our non-pilot support volunteers tell us that they get the same buzz. CWAS builds precious bonds, inspires and nurtures inter-generational relationships and strengthens communities. CWAS is a leading “Country Chapter” (branch) in the global Cycling Without Age organisation, currently active in 41 countries.
