New Member Garry Smith

New member, Garry Smith was born and grew up in Stranraer moving to Ayr in 1985. A graduate in Metallurgy from Strathclyde University he worked in the steel industry before moving into IT and software development for manufacturing industry. Following involvement in a major European research project lead by the University of Strathclyde and Cambridge University’s Institute for Manufacturing a colleague and Garry formed a company to commercialise the findings. This was the beginning of a 25+ year career specialising in software tools and services for business advisers, management consultancies and economic development agencies with applications created for numerous organisations throughout the UK and aboard.

Married for 45 years to Ali with two married adult children, one living in Ayr the other in London, Garry was delighted to be invited to join Ayr Rotary with its opportunities to be involved in supporting many very meaningful projects and to enjoy good fellowship.
