After leaving school, Rob initially experienced active service in the Army, serving in the 1st Gulf War and Northern Ireland, also spending time in America, Germany and Australia during his military career. Then he set up his own utility company, whilst also serving as Executive Director for ‘BNI Scotland West’, a marketing company that generated over £11 million worth of business last year.

He and his wife Jenny established Megan’s Space in 2019 with the aim to provide accessible mental health services. Rob has spoken publicly about the importance of early intervention, and community-based support where Megan’s Space has helped over 150 young people across Ayrshire. His work continues to raise awareness, offer hope to families navigating mental health challenges through ‘Megan’s Space’.

Megan’s Space aims to prevent the needless loss of young lives to suicide and reduce self-harm whilst promoting mental wellbeing. They provide a range of services to children and young people, up to the age of 25, with their mental wellbeing, including essential support, advocacy and therapeutic services to young people who are unable to access the help they need through traditional routes whether due to cost, access or perceived taboo.

After her death, her family decided to create Megan’s Space as a solution to the lack of specialist support available and unreasonable waiting lists, to help others who are struggling with their mental health and provide timely and effective interventions that can offer hope and recovery to both the young person and the community supporting that young person alike.

To this end the charity offers support for classic anxiety, low mood, trauma, and are also developing expertise in areas such as Personality Disorder and Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD).  In addition, they are actively partnering with schools and colleges and deliver awareness, education and prevention to young people and their families.

Jim Nelson gave a worthy vote of thanks to Rob and his    many thought provoking power point slide presentation.
