Louise Robertson from Alzheimer Scotland

The recent Ayr Rotary Club’s guest speaker, Louise Robertson, delivered a talk on the work of ‘Alzheimer Scotland in Ayrshire’, a Charity which Ayr Rotary Club support, and to which they recently donated £3720 from the proceeds raised from their annual ‘Charity Golf Day’.

Louise is a qualified Physiotherapist, and moved from Hamilton to Ayr around 10 years ago. In 2020, she was appointed Alzheimer Scotland’s, local Dementia Advisor for South Ayrshire, providing local support and advice, not only for those worried about their memory loss but also for those who have a diagnosis of Dementia, and those of family, or friends of someone, living with Dementia.

Louise’s primary role in providing guidance, support and education to the local community and businesses is exemplified by the passion shown in her presentation. The charity’s objectives are built upon the following,

PREVENT. It’s never too early to look after your brain health. Estimates show 45% of dementia cases globally are preventable and our aim is to educate people on the risk factors that could lead to dementia.

CARE. We support people with dementia their families and carers by providing a range of innovative services and therapeutic services activities throughout Scotland.

CURE. We help find a cure by funding research and campaigning for people to have access to any treatments available.

Louise’s main role is to-

Support through texts, calls, emails, face to face as well as care support groups and carer education courses. Also dementia friendly services combined with awareness raising within communities. And support for dementia friendly communities In addition, environmental advice is provided.
