Charity Golf Day May 2025

We had a great golf match on 2nd May with twelve teams entering for the day and a good number of sponsors, including a principal sponsor and a non-playing donor.  The sun was shining, the Belleisle golf course staff, including the fabulous caterers and golf professional, were brilliant, and some club members turned up to help, both on the day before and for the match itself. So, the perfect conditions to raise as much as we could for Alzheimer’s Scotland (proceeds to be spent in Ayrshire) and the club’s Benevolent Fund (it’s charitable arm), which donates money to worthy local causes.

The game was a Stableford competition with the team’s best two players to count. Last year’s winners, Peronni, had returned the Trophy dutifully engraved and were determined to take it back to their famous shop in Ayr. But, despite their best efforts on the day, that was not to be.

The competition was won by the Galbraith team, led by Matthew Finlay, with an amazing score of 94 points.  Second was Chambers Brothers and third the St Cuthbert Wednesday Boys.  In addition, we had Nearest the Pin won by Duncan Sinclair and the Longest Drive that was won by David Anderson. For the first time, we had a prize for the first lady golfer, Rachel from Galbraith. There were some runner-up prizes for ‘Most Golf’

Amazingly, four Rotarians turned up from Italy to play the course, which was closed, and before we were alerted to them, they had been booked onto another famous Ayrshire course, but wished us all the best for the day.

The photo shows the fabulous course our European friends and three members of the winning team

So many thanks are required to the competitors, the sponsors and the prize donors. Not least, we wish to acknowledge the help from South Ayrshire Council, particularly the very helpful staff in the clubhouse, where a lovely lunch was served.

Our grateful thanks to all who supported the event including individuals who donated prizes.
