Visit to Hampden Park

On 31 May 2019, the Club visited Hampden Park. Ayr member, John Dunlop, was Director of Policy and Administration at the SFA a few years ago, and was able to organise an excellent tour of all the facilities. Our guide, Bruce, gave us lots of information on the development of Hampden and showed us the dressing rooms, indoor warm-up area culminating in waiting in the tunnel before being met with the “Hampden Roar”, as we took to the pitch.

Following lunch, we toured the excellent football musem and a special curling exhibition, largely made up of curling memorabilia belonging to the late Sheriff David Smith from Troon.

During the tour, everyone was given the opportunity to “score a goal” in the practice nets. Alistair Tyre volunteered to go first – and he scored, albeit at his third attempt. And that was without a goalie present!

An excellent day out for Rotary members, and several other guests from Ayr Curling Club who joined us.
