Kenny Bell the officer in charge of the Ayr Sea Cadets, delivered a
fascinating insight into the origins and current exciting activities at their
Seaforth Road unit premises. He explained how the 5 core values of
Respect, Loyalty, Self Discipline, Honesty & Integrity and Commitment
are instilled in all cadets from their first day. Affiliated to HMS Argyle
and meeting every Monday and Thursdays, the Ayr Unit currently have
23 cadets from 10 to 18 years old, with an optimum intake of circa 30
recruits. Kenny continued by confirming that the youngsters acquire life
skills including leadership, communication, confidence and team work.
Along with discipline, structure and routine, he believes the Sea Cadets
offer an excellent opportunity to develop well rounded young people.
One of the new inspirational projects which is being launched in 2016
is the “get a float” campaign and sponsor a Cadet is a continuous drive .
During questions, after Kenny finished his presentation, Muir Austin
revealed he had been a Sea Cadet in his younger years and commended
the Sea Cadets as an excellent organisation. Geoff Barber delivered the
vote of thanks.
