Tues13 Sept 2016 – Belleisle Conservatory: Gordon Wilson and Colin Naismith
Mr Gordon Wilson, Director, and Mr Colin Naismith, Chairman, of Belleisle Conservatory Ltd (BCL), a registered charity, delivered a very interesting and enjoyable presentation including the history of the Conservatory from its beginnings in 1879 up to the present day.
During the period 2005 – 2010 the Conservatory fell into disrepair and decline, coming very close to being demolished. However this was when BCL was formed and, due to their commitment and hard work, a sizeable donation from the Heritage Lottery Fund was secured. Various other grant applications were identified and along with fund raising events the necessary financial costs to allow the rebuilding of the Conservatory were finally in place.
The work began in 2014 and on July 23rd this year approximately 500 people attended the grand re-opening of the Conservatory to the public.
Belleisle Conservatory Ltd is committed to ensuring the sustainability of the project, its continuing development and securing its existence for future generations. To assist with this commitment opportunities exist for volunteers and a patronage scheme is also in place. Details can be found at belleisleconservatory.com .
A warm welcome was extended to everyone to visit the Conservatory.
A vote of thanks was given by Harry Jackson.
