Troon Community Sale

On a rainy Saturday in November, Troon Town Hall was bristling with eager sellers and traders, all keen to make a profit or at least cover their table space costs. And there in the brightly lit corner, with two excellently located tables was the Rotary Club of Ayr. Our tables were groaning with books of every description from the thriller to the practical; from “How to be a perfect wife” to an instruction manual for a Sinclair ZX.

With skills, sure to be envied by the best exponents in the “Barras,” the gallant band of Ayr Rotarians, cajoled, flattered and pressurised unsuspecting browsing visitors to part with cash. Even with it being a driech November day and competition from the Hospice Fare in Ayr, a steady stream of visitors meandered their way around the hall throughout the day, making for a surprisingly quick day.

President Douglas, Secretary Craig, Neil, John E, John L, Ronnie, Alex, Harry J all performed admirably. Included in the Ayr Rotary volunteers, was Bob ‘young Mr Grace’ Henderson who departed with the immortal words ‘you are all doing very well’
