The Rotary Club of Ayr has over 50 members and is active in our local, national and international communities. We meet every Tuesday, 5.45 for 6.00pm, at the Savoy Park Hotel, Ayr. Please take a few moments to visit our website, to see the service work we do in our communities. We are a very active Rotary Club, in service and in fellowship. And from fellowship, friendships grow. If you would like to know more about Rotary and in particular, The Rotary Club of Ayr, send an email to craig.wilson@highabbothill.co.uk

It was eyes down for a full house on Zoom tonight, with friend of the club Bob “The Balls” Gibson calling the shots and dazzling us all with his expert bingo lingo 🤹🏻‍♂️😆. Our evening of fun and friendship was organised by John Dunlop and the Vocational Service Team, with Alan McWilliam as MC trying to keep us all in order. There were prizes galore, including packets of rich tea biscuits, aniseed balls and granny sookers - the grand prize of a bottle of malt won by Alex Thomson was much coveted! President Ian Alexander heartily thanked everyone for all the hard work that went into making the evening such a success. Same again next week?

Jeelie Jar Generosity! Members put small change in the ‘Jeelie Jar’ each week when we meet at the Savoy Park Hotel and twice a year it is emptied and given to a local cause - this year we have been supporting Crossroads South Ayrshire Care Attendant Scheme who offer vital support to carers. We’re working on ways to fill a virtual jeelie jar during the COVID crisis, so local causes will still be helped. During lockdown, our members have been supporting the Ayr Salvation Army food bank by donating the money we would have spent on dinner at our weekly meeting at the Savoy Park Hotel. This has raised a large sum of money each month and allowed Major Linda Watson to buy much needed supplies. Rotary volunteer Euan Lawrence goes along each Friday to give a hand, and additional face masks have been donated by the Irvine Valley branch of the @Nifty Home Stitchers sewing group who have been busy throughout making scrubs and masks for frontline workers.

President of Glasgow North & Bishopbriggs Rotary, Chris Sandford, delivered a passionate and enthusiastic presentation about his ‘Old for Gold’ project. Based on the values of Rotary, Old for Gold encourages older members to pass on life long learned skills by engaging the young in the community. Do you know someone who would benefit from the support of an ‘Old for Gold’ partnership in Ayr? Let us know!
Chris is committed to passing on his skills as a chef and has huge success in this regard. He took a team of chefs with disabilities to the Culinary Olympics and has set up the The Culinary Ability Awards.
