Paul Williams receives prestigious award

On 20 August 2023, Neil Beattie proposed Paul Williams to receive a Paul Harris Award. Here is Neil’s speech.

Mr President, the Paul Harris Fellowship is the highest honour that a Rotary Club can bestow on a member of the Club or of the public.

I wish to make such a nomination tonight. The person I am proposing has been a member of this Club for about 15 years. In that time he has been an exemplary Rotarian.

He retired to Ayr from the south of England. His wife is an Ayr girl and her father was my boss at one time. He first came across us walking on the Coastal Path and has become one of the volunteers since.

When Geoff retired from the Poppy stewardship, he took it over and continued its conspicuous success. He followed me as Community Service Convenor and that aspect of our work is thriving under his leadership.

I am referring to Paul Williams of course. It is my pleasure, on behalf of the Club, to ask you to now present Paul with his richly deserved Paul Harris Fellowship.
