Partners Evening – 11 December 2017

Well what a night of fun. friendship, awards and entertainment we had, hosted by oor secretary Douglas. A glass of Prosecco greeted everyone to get the evening underway and the Savoy Park Hotel, with Mary, Geoff and staff on hand, provided a most enjoyable three-course meal followed by coffee, mince pies & mints.   The surprise of the night was the Paul Harris Fellowship Awards which went to Kirsty Muirhead and our very own Charlie Steele (see separate report). Congratulations to both for their well-deserved awards.

The entertainment which followed was provided by Luath – a local 4-piece band playing a blend of Scottish & Irish folk music and other songs ranging from the Proclaimers’ Five Hundred Miles (2 versions!) to Vera Lynn’s ‘A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square’. This catered for all tastes and, judging by the enthusiastic participation of the company, was very well received with two encores. Big thanks must go to Bruce, Keith, David and Fiona who are Luath.

The night finished with the £5 Envelope Raffle – a total of 60 envelopes were collected raising £325 for the Malawi Borehole Project. Winners were: 1st Prize – Gus’s Xmas Hamper – Ieuan Isaac; 2nd Prize – Savoy Park Hotel voucher – Dorothy Herd; 3rd Prize – Ewan Macfarlane meal voucher – Euan Nicol; 4th Prize – Garrocher Xmas tree voucher – Douglas Haddow; 5th Prize – Bottle of white wine – Lynn McWilliam; 6th Prize – Bottle of red wine – Marilyn Dickie; 7th Prize – Box of chocolates – Jimmy Begg (Thanks to all who donated these prizes).

Neil Beattie delivered a witty vote of thanks to all who participated and made it such a happy occasion. This was another rip-roaring success for Ian Alexander Promotions and Ian himself entertained the audience with his patter between the various stages.
