New President at Ayr Rotary

Mary-Helen is a native of Ayr, having attended Ayr Grammar and Ayr Academy , then leaving Ayr for Strathclyde University. After getting married in Ayr, she lived for some time in the Lake District and then moved down to Peterborough in Cambridgeshire where she joined Rotary in 1996, being the first woman member in the city where there were 3 clubs at that time.

She was President in 2005-6 and did not think for a moment that this would be repeated. When Mary Helen returned to Ayr, 5 years ago, and almost immediately joined Ayr Rotary seeing what a growing and dynamic Club it was. When she was asked to become President, she decided that it was an opportunity too great to miss as Ayr Rotary is such a successful Club and it is an honour to hold such a position. She is very excited by the various community and youth projects which the Club undertakes.

Her aim for the Club this year is to continue to enhance the good will and camaraderie by involving everyone in whatever way they can, and ensure they feel they contribute and belong to successful club. Everyone has something to offer whether it is hands-on help or wisdom from previous times. Age is no barrier.

Mary Helen would also like to encourage more women to join.

The Club will continue to help the community and youth and raise funds while enjoying themselves.
