Kummel Cup 27 October 2019

On a fresh, bright breezy October afternoon, the Kummel Cup was played over Royal Troon. Six hardy souls set out to claim the coveted trophy, for the best Stableford score. Alex Thomson was the victor, with an impressive display, mastering the tricky conditions, especially on the back nine, where it was straight into the wind.

The Kummel Cup was donated by John Laughland in 2007, for annual golf competition. It is tradiitional to fill the cup with a bottle of Kummel, and Alex duly obliged. Kummel is a caraway-flavoured sweet liqueur, thought to have medicinal properties. It is well knowm as the drink of choice at Prestwick Golf Club.
