Jewel Charity Curling Bonspiel

Ayr Rotarians travelled to Perth on 15 March 2023, to compete in the Rotary Jewel Charity Bonspiel. We were able to field two rinks, thanks to Alistair Tyre (ex Ayr, now North Berwick) joining us.

The day is about Rotary friendship and rasing money for the Matt Murdoch Foundation, which was set up in 2014 to commemorate his life. Matt was president of the RCCC, and in 2012 captained the Rotary tour of Canada. The foundation was set up by Matt’s friends and family in association with Rotary, and funds junior curlers to attend training camps in Canada, amongst other help for juniors.

The curling consisted of four games with three ends in each. The Ayr rinks failed to bring home any prizes, but played some excellent curling, finishing mid-table.

Rink 1: Euan Lawrence, Charlie Steele, David McIntyre, Paul Williams

Rink 2: Alex Thomson, Jim Nelson, Alistair Tyre, Douglas Haddow
