Horse racing at Somerset Park

Ayr Rotary held an amazing race night at Somerset Park on Friday night attended by over 100 people. Six races enticed guests to lay their bets and then on occasions collect their winnings while sporting beaming smiles whenever lady luck shone on their choices. At the interval, new comedienne Clare Cameron wowed her audience with her humorous “eclair” tag line and enjoyable and very funny stories.

MC Douglas Haddow then introduced the incomparable, professional, effervescent Magic Malky who displayed why he’s still on high demand on the entertainment circuit. The audience loved his antics and his thoroughly enjoyable routine. He had driven up from his show in Blackpool that morning to give his time free of charge, then to return to to the North West of England the next day. Phew!

Of note were the delicious “Killie Pies” served at the interval and also of note was our very own David MacIntyre who managed to devour four, yes (4) pies. No photo, too graphic. The irony of Killie Pies at Ayr United was not lost on all who attended.

President Mary Helen Shakespeare concluded the superb night thanking all who helped make the evening a success, including the Ally MacLeod staff and all guests who attended.

We raised in excess of £2000 at this new event for our benevolent fund which will benefit local good causes.
