Helen Slane Joins Ayr Rotary
Helen grew up in Ayrshire, just up the coast in Troon, amongst a large extended family of Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, as well as her parents, plus two brothers and one sister (and a dog or two on the way!). The youngest in the family, she followed her siblings through school in Muirhead Primary and Marr College, before joining Bank of Scotland in the 1980’s.
Her 40+ year career in Bank of Scotland, which became part of Lloyds Banking Group in 2009, covered the majority of Banking roles that you could possibly think of – general Clerk/Teller; Regulated Sales; Lending Assistant (Brighton/Southampton); Operations Manager (Southampton), Regional Operations Manager (South of England) before moving to roles in Change Management, which allowed her to use the knowledge she gathered during the first 20 years of her career in delivering key business initiatives safely.

The final 10 years of her career were as a Senior Business Architect which involved developing Operating Models, processes and providing input to systems being developed. Ultimately, she supported delivery of change by assessing impacts of any strategic change within Lloyds Banking Group on customers, colleagues and the wider business, to ensure it was safely completed.
Since leaving LBG in 2024, Helen has supported Terry Wright (Scottish Representative of Standing with Giants) and Chaired South Ayrshire Field of Heroes Group, affiliated to the national charity Standing With Giants, which included engaging South Ayrshire Council, Police Operations, local historians and many others, to deliver two successful events – Victory in Europe 80th Anniversary Celebrations which included a school competition, musical event, parade and the installation of 140 Silhouettes in Wellington Square (all of which were linked to local stories of those who served) in 2025, and a remembrance event to mark the 110th Anniversary of the Somme in 2026. 
South Ayrshire Field of Heroes continues to educate and raise awareness of those who served their country throughout the year at events such as Remembrance Day Services and also recently the International Air Show.
A desire to continue to contribute to her local community inspired Helen joining the Rotary Club of Ayr.
