Taking us on a whistle stop tour of global shipping routes, Gavin excited his audience with his energetic delivery and information packed slides. From the strategic importance of the Panama Canal to the crucial position and power of Turkey’s Istanbul, Gavin presented an abundance of detail on the history and current relevance of his topics. The Suez Canal, the North West Passage and the Chinese Silk Road were all given Gavin’s critical analysis and explanation of their past and current value to world economics. His wealth of knowledge was evidenced by his regular asides that each of the shown slides could spawn another in depth lecture.
