Foto Frivolity – 25 February 2020

There was a decidedly competitive atmosphere at our funny photo evening when 4 teams of members were shown a selection of candid and amusing photographs taken over the last eighteen months or so at club events. Members were tasked with dreaming up appropriate captions to attach to the photos (see gallery below) and the only rule was that no very rude words would be permitted. That said, a number of the offered captions would certainly have stretched any censor’s flexibility. Not your typical Rotary meeting.

The Judges

Each team’s submitted suggestion was judged by a panel of three which included a specially invited celebrity – the newly appointed marketing assistant at the Savoy Park Hotel, Clare Cameron. This was Clare’s first day in post so after spending an evening in the company of folk twice her age desperately trying to be funny, she can only hope things get better! However, she joined in the fun with great enthusiasm and showed her excellent PR credentials when she said gleefully “You meet every Tuesday? So I get to meet you people every week then?”

Douglas Haddow was the compère for the meeting and it was he who encouraged the build-up of tension as the competition neared its conclusion.

The Famous Five

After a stuttering start, The Famous Five came charging through on the inside rail to snatch victory from early joint-leaders, The Wallies and Hazel’s Hunks. The Drag Queens were a long way back in fourth place. Must have been an anchor they were dragging.
