Crosshouse Children’s Fund

Our guest speaker last week was Rebekah McGinn, fundraising manager for the Crosshouse Children’s Fund, delivering care for the children of Ayrshire and Arran. In her excellently delivered presentation, Rebekah explained that the charity’s mission is to improve the experience of those children attending hospital, whether through emergency or planned route. Much of this is achieved through direct investment in neonatal and paediatric site across the district.

A flagship project is the establishment of Rainbow House, a diagnostic and treatment centre, at Ayrshire Central Hospital, which has transformed the austere clinical environment into a bright, colourful and comforting space for children.

After a short video illustrating the breadth of the trust’s day-to-day activities and the experiences of the children, Rebekah provided some statistics to provide further measure of this:

  • 25,000 children across the region benefit annually from the support of the charity
  • 7,800 children were treated at Crosshouse hospital last year.
  • £350,000 of donations has been invested in projects and services.

Of course none of this can happen without the generous support provided by private donations. There is no government funding for these initiatives.

David McIntyre, in his vote of thanks, observed that we all want the best care for our children and grandchildren, and complimented Rebekah on the clarity of her presentation.
