Croquet Masterclass from David Arnot
David Arnot, Chairman of Auchincruive Croquet Club, was the speaker on 11th August and provided a highly entertaining history of the game from its origins in the 1850’s to the present day.
Balls and Mallets were keenly examined by Rotarians as David explained the different variations of the game including Golf Croquet and Association Croquet, strangely Laughland Croquet did not feature.
The game entered a period of decline after the 1st world war however its popularity has risen steadily in recent times both in traditional locations such as Commonwealth nations and elsewhere including Eastern Europe and Egypt.
Afterwards David used the Savoy Park lawn to show techniques and trick shots to assembled Rotarians, in light of this expert coaching session big things are expected at the club annual croquet competition on Sunday.
