Croquet Day Sunday 3rd July 2016

102_1846A hushed crowd were hanging onto every mallet strike as the many times winning master of croquet Neil Beattie led his partner, Fiona Boyd around the lawn followed doggedly by Sue Williams and Callum Meldrum.

Woos and ahs were the only sounds breaking the pleasant Summer Sunday afternoon air as the crowd waited in anticipation of the trailing duo to catch Neil and even perhaps knock Fiona off her game. This was not to be.

Yet even a gallant 30 yard strike towards the final hoop by the youngest player on the green of the croquet lawn, Callum, could not save the day, allowing Neil and Fiona to take the trophy.

Runners up were Milly Beattie & Gus Iannotti.

An excellent afternoon was complimented by copious bowls of home made salads and sweets which graced the Savoy Park’s usual quality BBQ steaks, chicken and ubiquitous sausages.

Not forgetting John Laughland’s sterling control and juggling of teams and participants as he judiciously rang out the bell to conclude each round, much to the relief of many players who experienced England Football Team moments of humiliation. A good time was had by all.
