Brian McQuillan, Community Engagement Officer of South Ayrshire Council delivered a presentation on Community Engagement Strategy/Health and Social Care Locality Planning. Using slides to illustrate the structure and objectives of the initiative, he said there is a need to know what individuals in the community think about services and how South Ayrshire can make these better and more relevant to people and their local community. Brian added that there is a need to know how well local services are delivered, what are the priorities, local issues and what more can be done within neighbourhoods to improve day-to-day lives.

GPs, hospitals, health workers, social workers, charities and voluntary groups will all work together to deliver a complete service of care and support designed for people, in their neighbourhood and local community.

The six areas, Troon & Prestwick, Ayr, Ayr North, Kyle, North Carrick, Girvan & South Carrick would then be split into ‘neighbourhoods’ in order to establish on-the-ground local needs at community level.

Brian concluded there is a three year timescale to ensure the project is successful and working well in all areas.

Euan Frew gave the vote of thanks
