Ayr members attend Adrossan & Saltcoats final dinner
Report by Neil Beattie
On 23rd June 2016, five members of the Rotary Club of Ayr attended the Final Dinner of the Rotary Club of Ardrossan and Saltcoats, our daughter Club, whose membership had fallen to only five members. After discussion with their neighbouring clubs, they had decided to amalgamate with the Rotary Club of Hunterston, with the new club retaining the Hunterston name.
Those attending were P/P’s Alex Thomson, Ronnie Wilson, John Ewing and Neil Beattie with P/E Craig Wilson. The dinner was chaired by P/P Donnie Shedden and was attended by representatives of clubs from as far apart as Greenock and Ayr, and most places in between. They enjoyed the warm fellowship of what was a cheerful, forward – looking evening with reminiscences from the surviving Ardrossan members and good wishes expressed by many visitors. P/P Neil spoke on behalf of the Ayr Club, wishing the new club a successful future, it being an amalgamation of Ayr’s daughter and grand-daughter clubs.
A short history of the Rotary Club of Ardrossan and Saltcoats had been compiled by P/P Donnie and copies were given to the guests.
