Antiques Road Show Saturday 8th October
Clutching their vases, both large and small, their great tombs of dust laiden books and items ranging from toy train sets to silver snuff boxes, hundreds of visitors descended on the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, Alloway, to have their items valued by the TR Callan experts in the hope of being in possession of a valuable heirloom.
A continuous stream of hopeful people were ushered into the Robertson Room and with eager anticipation unwrapped their coveted items. Many left the museum with happy smiles, having been reassured with pleasing valuations, others realising that they or their children will not be the beneficiaries of a valuable antique. Much to the delight of an afternoon visitor, the day’s highlight was that his three Victorian paintings were collectively valued in excess of £6000. However he insisted that they will remain on the walls at his home.
With help from many Rotarians throughout the day and Linda Callan’s sterling efforts in selling raffle tickets, the Callan professional valuation team enabled £933 to be collected on behalf of the Ayrshire Hospice.
Grateful thanks to all who contributed by way of time, effort and donations to help this worthy charity.
