Alasdair Meldrum Rides the Dragon’s Back – 18 Oct ‘22

The Dragon’s Back is 6-day multi-stage mountain race over 240miles with a total 57,000ft of ascent. Our own iron-man, Alasdair Meldrum, went off on a wee adventure at 6am on 5th September to run, jog, walk, crawl and cry down the spine of Wales from Conwy Castle to Cardiff Castle. He was doing this as part of the Albion Charity event for Whiteleys Retreat, the amazing charity which provide respite care for very sick children – the Albion team had already finished their August Charity Miles fund-raising; however Alasdair was hoping to raise a bit more by completing the Dragons Back race.

The course through the Welsh mountains is remote and frequently without regular phone service. However, the organisers provided for friends and family to send short messages to individual participants everyday throughout the event and it was a real boost to moral, to know that people were watching their progress.

Alasdair completed the race in a very creditable time of 69h:27m:55s, taking 27th place. There were 296 competitors with only 102 completing the course. Well done to Alasdair and his support team.
