Huff, puff, splash! This is what half of the membership of Ayr Rotary gets up to on Friday mornings or thereabouts. Lockdown due to Covid 19 has caused all of the Club’s fundraising activities to be cancelled but the need in the community is even greater than before.
One of the members suggested that every Friday members could walk, run, swim 5K, or whatever they were able to do, and then contribute £5 to the Club’s Benevolent Fund so that when requests for help came in, then there would be some money able to be disbursed.
This has resulted in some ingenious examples of dedication with one member rowing 5K on his rowing machine while another open water swims 5K. Others are running or cycling so we are looking forward to seeing a raised level of fitness in the membership when we can get together again.
Already nearly £2000 has been raised and the Club has been able to respond to urgent requests. You can see more about this on our Facebook site.
Many thanks to all the keen and generous participants!
