Ayr Poppy Appeal 2011

Record total broken again!

Following upon the excellent result achieved in the 2010 Poppy Appeal in Ayr, the appeal in 2011 raised a total of £34,781.85. This is a tremendous result and a tribute to the hard work of all involved and the amazing generosity of the people of Ayr.

The 2011 total is a 27% increase on last year and a 71% increase above the best ever total before the Rotary Club of Ayr took over the organisation of the appeal in 2010. Well done everyone involved – members of the Rotary club, the Lions Club of Ayr and Prestwick, the Inner Wheel Club of Ayr and the Army Cadets, whose street collection on Poppy Saturday was also an all time record.

Improving on the 2011 result in 2012 will be quite a challenge!

Ayr Rotary sponsor 10 students

Outward Bound Course at Loch Tay

Report by Paul Williams

The magnificent results for the students who have enjoyed! the freezing water, the biting midges and the resulting sense of achievement on the joint venture between Ayr Rotary and The Outward Bound Centre at Loch Eil over the past three years has caused Ayr Rotary once again to decide to sponsor ten more students, and their accompanying adults in 2012.

  Teamwork                                                                        Trust                           Understanding

The chosen course is designed to promote leadership qualities for 10 students in their final year at local schools in Ayr, Prestwick and Troon.
The deposit for next year’s course has been paid and the selectors are hard at work identifying the best people to attend the challenge at the new venue at Loch Tay.
